VEEAM 9.5
Introduction
With the release of UPDATE 4, Veeam has introduced the opportunity to store data on a S3 Compatible storage platform. It is actually a Cloud tiering functionality which allows to move data to an Object Storage based on policies set within the properties of a Scale Out Backup Repository. As the name suggests it is a tiering feature and not an archival one.
Configuration Guide
The following step-by-step guide shows how to configure Veeam to store data in to TheSwARM Object Storage. To do so, it's required to associate a TheSwARM repository to Scale-Out repository as illustrated: N 1. Add Scale-out Repository
After selecting BACKUP INSTRASTRUCTURE a new Scale-out backup repository has to be created as shown:
2. Select a backup Repository
In the Performance Tier section, an already created backup repository has to included to the previously created Scale-out backup repository:
3. Select a Placement Policy
In the Summary section of the new Scale-out repository has to be created a new Account for connecting to an S3 Compatible Object Storage.
4. Check Extend scale-out backup repository
In the Capacity Tier section it's required to check the following items:
5. Add S3 Compatible Object Storage Repository
6. Type a name for the Object Storage Repository
7. Add S3 compatible API Access Key/S3 Secret Key
IMPORTANT: The correct S3 Access Key, S3 Secret key and Hostname can be retrieved respectively as Access Key, Secret Key and Endpoint/Service point in S3 Access section from your administrative panel by logging here.
8. Add API REST Endpoint from S3 Compatible Credentials
To be noted that the field Region has to be kept as it is.
9. Select an already created bucket and browse it to create a new folder
10. Finish with Object Storage Repository configuration
11. Define upload policies to object storage
12. Finish
13. TheSwARM - real world usage consideration
For maximize data transfer is strongly recommended to choose the option 'Large Blocks' in Tabs Storage for "Advanced Setting". You can always reach this setting by editing a backup-job, reaching "Storage" section, and clicking "Advanced" button.
The SwARM cloud try to balance the bandwidth usage on bucket basis. In order to enlarge available bandwidth it is suggested to define as many scale-out as possibile, anyone with a different bucket as target.
Usage Considerations
IMPORTANT As reported in the Veeam documntation it's important bear in mind the following: Before transferring data to object storage repositories, Veeam validates the backup chain state to ensure that the restore points to be offloaded belong to an inactive backup chain.
