Introduction

Commvault Complete Backup & Recovery is a backup software designed to conduct backup, recovery and archiving activities, enable operational reporting and perform hardware snapshot management, all in one complete solution.

Configuration Guide

This guide shows how to configure and use Commvault V11 SP14 which has introduced direct S3 connection towards S3 Compatible Object Storage.

  • Free trial version can be downloaded at the following link

  • Open Commcell Console, expand Storage Resources then right-click on Libraries, select Add and select Cloud Storage Library as shown below:

  • Next step is to configure the Add Cloud Storage as follows:
    • Type a name
    • select S3 Compatible Storage from the Type drop-down menu
    • Fill in Access Information Service Host, Access Key ID and Secret Access Key retrieving them as Endpoint/Service point,Access Key and Secret Key in S3 Access section from your administrative panel by logging here.

  • Once the Library is configured a new Storage Policy can be configured as follows: expand Policies ,right-click on Storage Policies and select New Storage Policy

  • Select Storage Policy Type as Data Protection and Archiving and click Next

  • Enter a Storage Policy Name and click * Next*

  • It is possible to use a Deduplication Policy as shown below. In this example it has been selected No and then click Next

  • Select the Library previously defined and click Next

  • Select a Media Agent and click on Next

  • Enter the Device Streams and Retention Rule as follows*, then click **Next*

  • Just click Next in the Advanced settings for primary copy wizard

  • Un-tick Yes to enable Deduplication for the primary copy, then click Next

  • Review the Setting Selections, then click on Finish

  • The new Storage Policy is now present in the Storage policy list and it's possible to start with the first back-up to The SwARM storage. As shown below, in this example, Client Computers has been expanded and selected defaultBackupSet. Then right-click on default and select Properties

  • In the Subclient Properties of default wizard select Storage Device and select the Storage Policy just configured from the drop-down menu and click OK

14-_Storage_Policy

  • And it's now possible to start the back-up. Right-click on the selected Subclient, Select Backup Type and click OK

15-_Backup

  • Once the backup has started, it is possible to check its status in the Job Controller Panel
